Care of Game and Fish.
BIRDS:
DO NOT cut or clean birds...Keep plumage
as clean as possible, wrap in plastic bag and freeze as soon as possible.
SMALL GAME:[Coyote, Fox, Raccoon, Rabbit,
Etc.]
DO NOT cut or clean animal...place in
plastic bag and freeze as soon as possible.
LARGE GAME:[Deer, Bear, Caribou, Etc.]
Field dress as normal, being careful not
to make any cuts past brisket area. Keep cool and make an appointment to
drop off or ship the animal as soon as possible.
FISH:
Most fish are replicated in fiberglass
these days, as this gives the consumer a far superior end result than a
traditional skin mount. However, skin mounts can be done with acceptable
results on the following freshwater species: Largemouth and Smallmouth
Bass, Sunfish, Crappie, Pickerel, Pike, Muskellunge, Perch and smaller
Trout. The high oil content in the skin of larger Trout and Salmon makes
them better candidates for fiberglass reproductions.
Skin mounts can be performed with satisfactory
results on these saltwater species:
smaller Striped Bass and Weakfish. Large
oil deposits in the skin of large Striped Bass make them candidates for
fiberglass reproductions.
If the fish is to be skin mounted, DO
NOT cut or clean fish. Wrap in wet paper towel, put in plastic bag
and freeze as soon as possible.
REPRODUCTIONS:
Many fisherman release their catch these days, but can still have a
mount for the wall by recording the total length [including the bill on
the billfish] and the girth if possible. The professionals at Fins
to Feathers can match the coloring on the reproduction to match a snapshot
or magazine photo. Most saltwater species are recreated in fiberglass
to give the customer a longer lasting trophy.
