Fishing on Vacation?
Every year, we hear more and more horror
stories about fisherman going on vacation and being lured into leaving
their catch with the charter captain who knows the best taxidermist, etc.,
etc......
Then the angler leaves a big deposit with
the captain, pays a ton of money to the taxidermy studio and then gets
positively sacked with astronomical crating and shipping costs. This
surely puts a damper on the memory of the catch and the vacation.
Many times, these "assembly line" studios
put out a product that is sub-standard and ends up not being a good representation
of the fish that was caught.
These charter captains are pressured by
these assembly line studios to get as many fish mounted as they can, with
the promise of high commissions for the referral.
We suggest that you get estimates on the
length of the fish, obtain photos and stand firm on your conviction to
have your local taxidermist do the job for you when you return home.
It's nice to have a mount of the fish
you caught on vacation in the Keys, Mexico, Bahamas, etc. It's even nicer
to have some control of the mount.
